Pre-clinical development efforts are focused on a new compound for brain tumors
Kinex Pharmaceuticals is currently working on a potential new drug for the treatment of brain tumors, in adults and children. This new drug is a follow-up to KX01, which is currently in clinical trials at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and M.D.Anderson Cancer Centers for other tumor types. Recently Kinex has set up collaborations with the Roswell Park Neuro-Oncology group led by Dr. Robert Fenstermaker, which involves the study of selected Kinex drug candidates in their sophisticated animal brain tumor model. In addition, the Roswell Park Neuro-Oncology group, which includes Dr. Michael Ciesielski, is looking at other aspects of the actions of the Kinex drugs. Roswell Park’s part of this project has recently been funded by a grant from the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation to Dr. Fenstermaker’s laboratory. Kinex is responsible for supplying samples of its drug candidates and will of course assume all of the future costs of developing a drug candidate for animal toxicology and human trials. According to Dr Allen Barnett, CEO of Kinex, “We have had a very effective working relationship with Dr. Fenstermaker’s group and the funding provided by the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation will facilitate the development of a potentially exciting new treatment in a disease in which there is an urgent need”.
