Two US Patents Issued
US Patent No.7,129,225 entitled “Protection Against and Treatment of Hearing Loss” was issued on October 31, 2006. The importance of this patent is that it describes the use of Src kinase inhibitors for the treatment of hearing loss, which is associated with the use of platinum-based chemotherapeutics and also with noise exposure. With respect to Kinex’s business strategy, the successful issuance of this patent demonstrates the multiple uses of Src inhibitors in treating human disease. The Company has patented several structural classes of compounds (NCE’s) that can be used for diseases such as cancer, hearing loss, diabetic retinopathy and ischemia. “Developing our current compounds for multiple indications leverages the value in our platform technology and our Intellectual Property while bringing maximum value to our shareholders”, said Dr. Allen Barnett, Chief Executive Officer of Kinex Pharmaceuticals.
US Patent No. 7,070,936 entitled “Methods for Designing Protein Kinase Inhibitors” issued on July 4, 2006. This patent extends the scope of claims in an earlier patent to include additional structural classes of compounds.
